This phrase can usually inspire people to think they should live on purpose, but just seeing the quote doesn’t make a bit of difference if you don’t put it into action. The converse of this, however, is “Living on accident.” This phrase scares the (ahem) out of me.
Let’s evaluate what it means to have purpose …
- to have meaning
- fulfilling your dreams
- having and attaining goals
- turning visions into realities
What does it mean to live life on accident …
- you can be pushed around easily
- when you mess up, you won’t know the difference
- you attract others like you
Ask yourself what life would be like if you lived the next 10 years on accident. How much farther would you be from where you are now? What if tomorrow you woke up and the first thing you thought about was your purpose?
Where does a purpose come from? If you hold to the atheistic ideal, then there is no purpose. The universe holds to certain laws and thus cannot be changed. A ball falling does not have purpose but is instead a circumstance of it’s surroundings and only reactionary with no force in itself. However, when you hold that you are created, you have a purpose and were created for such. A house is created for a purpose. A computer program is created for a purpose. A purpose must be detected, unveiled and discovered. You, a created being, have a purpose. What is it?
There are three areas in our life that make up our individual purposes
- Potential
- To discover our purpose we must unveil what potential lies inside. This is possible by asking our creator, observing what we have accomplished, and listening to others.
- Passion
- A purpose without passion is unfulfilled. Passion drives you beyond circumstances and turns negative feedback into positive outcomes. Your passion will continue regardless of what is thrown in your way.
- Profits
- Everything you do should have value. Whether you choose to require that value is up to you. But if you continue putting value out and not getting value back, your purpose will increasingly diminish.
I trust God has a destiny for you. Until you recognize what that destiny is, then you will not fulfill the potential inside you.
It’s not the hours in the day. It’s what you do with them.
If something is important it contributes to your purpose.
I want to make a disclaimer that these thoughts and ideas are a broad generalization. I believe in them wholeheartedly … unless God has specifically directed you. When He does that … your purpose is crystal clear, regardless of your passion, potential and profits. Think of Jonah.
